Butthole Surfers - Paradiso, Amsterdam, Netherlands September 27, 1988

Hey!

It's time for the second installment of the Anal Obsession's exclusive audio downloads. This one comes from the Paradiso in Amsterdam on 9/27/88.

WOW! A massive set here. European setlists always seem to be filled with reckless abandon, and this one is no exception. By the time the band hit the US fer the Fall 1988 tour, setlists had become more solidified, but here, it's a free-fer-all. Just when you think the show is over and "Lou Reed" comes to an end, they pull out an encore set that truly BAFFLES! This is one of the longest performances of the band captured on tape!

Some highlights include the "Psychedelic Jam" closer, something they hadn't done in at least 3-4 years prior to this. Also, this is one of the last performances of "James Brown", their own take on the Godfather of Soul's "Papa Don't Take No Mess". (NYC was treated to the final performance of it on 11/19/88).

Just when you think you know what's coming next, they seem to pull out another surprise. The normal trifecta of "Blindman", "Edgar", and "Nee Nee" so prevalent on the US Fall 1988 sets are spread out...a "22 Going On 23" with no "Kuntz". Oddities galore.

This would also mark the last known show that Kathleen would dance fer the band. Although, she came out fer part of the 11/19/88 show, she had officially stopped her artistry after this European tour.

The 1988 tour of europe was really just a short excursion abroad to record songs fer the 'John Peel Session'. They played one show in the UK at the Brixton Academy, then went to the mainland fer the 'Futurama Festival' in Belgium. The two known shows in Tilburg and this here are probably the only two they played as headliners. They certainly did not disappoint!.

Enjoy, but PLEASE!

do not sell this recording!!
Please be mindful if encoding this to MP3 that it is fer yer own personal usage...please only disseminate in .flac format.
