Daddy Longhead

There have been many side projects over the years: Paul's solo efforts, Gibby's Problem, along with his other ventures with P and Ministry, King's Drain, and later Rubble...but Jeff's side project, turned full-time band, Daddy Longhead, is worthy of a study all its own...and who else would do it, besides me...(ok, maybe my pal Tracy, but very few others!..;)...

Daddy Longhead formed in 1991, as a trio consisting of Jeffrey, work horse drummer, Reynolds Washam (Big Boys, Helios Creed, Rx...the list goes on and on!), and guitar\fiddle\vocalist Jimbo Young: a fellow Atlanta native who is likely the person who introduced Jeff to the Butthole Surfers. Their first effort, 'Cheetos' was released while Jeff was still in the Butthole Surfers and is a psychedelic guitar\fiddle bacchanalia that surely could drive dogs in yer neighborhood into a frenzy if played at high volume...which it most certainly would be...

When Jeff left the Butthole Surfers in early 1994, Daddy Longhead became a full time project. They did some recordings for a 10" EP on Man's Ruin Records later on in 1994. Man's Ruin eventually released more recordings from those sessons as the aptly titled, 'Classic', but not before Rey's departure, and release of 'Supermasonic' with Pain Teens' drummer Frank Garymartin.

They had a huge cache of songs not recorded when Jeff hung up DL to work full time on Honky in 1998. It is a true shame, since the band's unreleased tracks remain some of the highlights of their catalog.

So, here is great show from the waning days of our heroes. While not containing all the unreleased songs, this one does have some of the best ones, including classics like “Lung Punch”, “Plano” and “Case of the Feelings”. “Dewey” was later recorded with Jeff’s other short-lived band, Areola 51., but never saw a Daddy Longhead release…They had at least another great release in them..but, alas it was not to be…they played what was likely their final show in on February 6, 1998 on a co-bill with Honky…a sort of a passing of the torch, if you will…

They played a loose reunion set in September 2004, but nothing came of it, unfortunately…

I highly recommend ya play this loud and often, but PLEASE!

Do not sell!
Do not disseminate in MP3 Format!
